Melissa's Background
Author, speaker, educational writing consultant Melissa
Forney presents 100+ writing workshops for teachers each year. A certified
teacher with years of classroom experience, Melissa has taught a variety
of grades in elementary and middle school, and high school English, Spanish,
and journalism, as well as a course in children's literature for the University
of South Florida. Melissa Forney holds a B.A. in Communications and a
Masters of Fine Arts in Writing for Children.
She has traveled widely on book and speaking tours for both Pelican Publishing
Company and Maupin House Publishing, addressing schools and book conventions
across the country. Melissa has written curriculum, magazine articles, plays,
children's books, and educational books on teaching writing.
Born and educated in the Panama Canal Zone, Melissa Forney enjoyed a unique childhood
in the jungles of the tropical rain forest. After coming to the United States,
she completed her education at Mississippi College, Holy Cross College, and the
University of South Florida. Melissa now lives in DeLand, Florida, with her husband
and business partner, Dr. Richard Forney.
